Aloe aculeata
'Red Hot Poker Aloe'

In the native habitat it grows in rocky and stony areas
where the roots are wedged in rocks and kept cool although
they grow in warm to hot frost-free areas with summer rainfall.
The term aculeate means prickly or armed with many spines.

Uses: Ideal for rockeries and general landscaping and looks fantastic in a decorative pot. It is a great resource for sunny, hot spots.
Flowers: The inflorescence is simple in young plants and 3 to 4 branched to 1m high in mature specimens. Abundant lemon yellow or orange cylindrical blooms to 4cm long open progressively up the stem during the winter months of May- July.
Growth Habit: Usually forms a stemless rosette 1 – 1.25m tall with upright grey green leaves copiously covered with scattered spines.
Growing Guide: Grow in full sun to light shade.  Regular water in summer, dormant in winter; keep it totally dry at or around 4°C.
