Aloe africana
'Spiny Aloe'
Single-stemmed Aloe, 2-2.5 m tall, usually unbranched
with dull
glaucous green leaves forming a dense rosette1.2 m in diameter.
The Spiny Aloe a very pretty tree Aloe.
Origin - South Africa (Eastern Cape close to the coast).
| Uses: | Ideal for rockeries and general landscaping and looks fantastic in a decorative pot. It is a great resource for sunny, hot spots. |
| Flowers: | Blooming in winter, on an inflorescence up to 90 cm with 2 to 4 branches, the individual flowers are 4-5 cm long, opening from red buds that turn more and more yellow as they open and age. The open flowers are curved upward and have green tips. |
| Growth Habit: | Long broad tapering leaves have smooth surfaces with recurved margins armed with sharp brown teeth. The dry leaves of Aloe africana persist on the stem after they die providing a protective skirt. |
| Growing Guide: | Grow in full sun in free draining soil and provide adequate water during spring and autumn when it is growing. Avoid any frost. |
