Aloe alooides
(syn. Urginea alooides, Aloe recurvifolia)

Single stout stemmed shrub usually unbranched to 2 m
tall is topped with a succulent rosette of foliage 90 cm across.
Origin – Dolomite formations in high rainfall mountainous
places of eastern Transvaal SA.

Uses: Ideal for rockeries and general landscaping and looks fantastic in a decorative pot.  It is a great resource for sunny, hot spots.
Flowers: Up to five tall slender simple inflorescences may emerge from a single mature rosette and bloom at the end of the winter. Yellow flowers opening from green buds give a bicoloured effect.
Growth Habit: Deeply channelled recurved green leaves have a distinct red margin with brown teeth. The tips of older leaves arch back almost touching the stem and after they die dry and persist providing a protective skirt.
Growing Guide: Grows well in full sun warm sheltered position with protection from strong winds that may damage the tall flower spikes. Soil should be well-drained and ample lime added if necessary to ensure an alkaline soil.
