Eucomis hybrid
'Pineapple Lily'
A perennial bulb from South Africa the ‘Pineapple Lily’
takes its name from the cluster of flowers topped by a
tufted crown of leafy bracts that resemble a pineapple on a totem pole.
| Uses: | Excellent garden plant for borders and mixed plantings. Use coloured foliage forms as a tropical looking accent plant. Performs well in large containers. |
| Flowers: | Stout straight flower stem arises (50 – 70 cm) from the centre of the bulb in late summer. Individual perfumed flowers to 2 cm across may be white or various shades of pink. Flowers are good for picking, lasting well in fresh water. |
| Growth Habit: | Broad strap foliage (45cm long and 5cm wide) emerges from a herbaceous perennial bulb and forms a rosette to 60cm wide of green or reddish-purple coloured foliage. |
| Growing Guide: | Easy to grow in well-drained, organic, sandy soil with best colour and flowering in full sun. Cold tolerant to -10°C once established. |
